Pocket squares are a great way to dress up your every day look. Not every outfit needs one, but if you want that extra accessory that takes your look from zero to ten, a pocket square is a great option. The addition of such a classic accessory says, “I took the time to make sure I look great.” A pocket square adds class and sophistication to any polished ensemble.
One of the best parts of pocket squares is that they give men a chance to express their inner selves in a dapper way. Guys who love to wear bright, funny, or crazy clothing can dress up their look by wearing a solid color sport coat with a bright or whimsically patterned pocket square. It gives the idea that you don’t have to always look wild and crazy to express yourself, but you don’t have to dampen your personality.
If you are more subdued, dark or solid color pocket squares are always in style. For someone who doesn’t need to be the center of attention, a nice maroon silk pocket square can give a well-dressed look.
Now that you know the value of a classic pocket square, here are a few ways you can fold yours to look your best:
Classic Fold
These 4 easy steps involve folding your pocket square in half from different directions.
- Start with the pocket square facing down.
- Fold in half from right to left.
- Fold in half from bottom to top.
- Fold in half from left to right
Finally: Adjust to fit the size of your jacket pocket.
Two Peaks
This classic fold of the pocket square leaves peaks at the top to show layers.
- Start with the pocket square facing down with the points of the square at the top and bottom.
- Fold the bottom corner up to the top, slightly askew to form two peaks.
- Fold the right corner to the left past the center point, which will determine the width of the fold.
- Fold the left corner over to the right. Be sure to fold any remaining corners behind.
Adjust to fit the size of your jacket pocket.
Angled Peaks
This exotic fold gives more peaks at an angle.
- Start with the pocket square facing down.
- Fold in half diagonally from top left to bottom right.
- Fold the bottom left corner up to the top, slightly askew to the left to form two peaks.
- Fold bottom corner up, slightly to the left of the two peaks, forming the third peak.
- Separate the peaks of the last fold to form a fourth peak.
- Fold left edge behind and to the right.
- Fold the bottom up and behind the front.
Finally: Adjust to fit the size of your pocket.
